‘Sunlight’ serves as the beginning of something really new and exciting for us – Sun Spot has been a thing for nearly a year now, and in that time, it’s changed a whole lot. George (Turner) was always involved from the beginning but his role has shifted from being a supporting member to the creative force that defines us. Simply put – Sun Spot has just become the name for the two of us to put out any music that we make together. It means the sky’s the limit and we have no intention of letting things get stale or sticking to a formula, which will be obvious in all the music we’re excited to share very soon.
‘Sunlight’ itself as a song is about chasing a state of happiness. The lyrics reflect the times in my life where my mental wellbeing has been at an all time low. Going outside, getting out of bed or even just interacting with the people that care about you the most becomes the most unnatural thing and the thought of being normal or happy again feels impossible. It’s normal to feel low but feeling happy again becomes this cycle that seems a bit like chasing the dragon. ‘Sunlight’ is about that state of mind, and the kind of optimism you have to impose on yourself – even if you don’t necessarily believe it at the time, it always gets better.
