about

Maker is a concept album about a scientist who creates a universe within their own mind and becomes the higher-being/God for this universe, with the ability to detach themselves from reality in order to focus solely on their utopia that they’ve created. Across the course of the story, the Maker’s real life begins to delve into turmoil after being neglected whilst they become obsessed with the power of being a God, and as physically and mentally they begin to deteriorate in the real world, their moral and ethical compass is swayed within their own subconscious universe.

Each track cuts between thought processes in the real world and within the Maker’s utopia, and as the record progresses it becomes darker, more uncontrollable until the final title track ‘Maker’ where they decide that they are to destroy the universe whilst they are in it, leaving their subconscious non-existent. This means that their real-life body is to remain lifeless so that nobody in the real world is affected by the Maker’s realisation that deep down they are prepared to sacrifice all the things that they love just for the illusion of power.

Maker focuses on a lot of ethical issues that are ever present in modern society, and whilst the illusion of Maker creating a subconscious universe brings a sense of fantasy to the subject, it brings up the conversation; what would you truly do if you had all the power in the world? Would you use it for good, or evil?
